Ligue 1: Monaco go top, Lyon sink to the bottom

Aleksandr Golovin scored two superb goals to earn Monaco a 2-1 victory against Metz on Sunday, taking them top of Ligue 1.

The Russian opened the scoring in the 42nd minute with a long-range strike, and then doubled Monaco’s lead in the 55th minute with a free-kick.

Metz had taken the lead in the 4th minute through Lamine Camara, but Golovin’s goals sealed the comeback for Monaco.

The three points were enough to take Monaco top of the table, replacing Nice, who had led the way on Sunday morning.

Lyon’s dreadful season continued as they slumped to the bottom of the table with a 2-1 defeat to Clermont Foot.

Lyon had just three points to their name before the game, and they fell behind in the 10th minute through Muhammed Cham. Yohann Magnin added a second for Clermont Foot in the 35th minute.

Lyon gave themselves a lifeline in the 52nd minute when Florent Ogier scored an own goal, but they could not find an equaliser.

The defeat leaves Lyon bottom of the table, with Clermont Foot moving up to 17th place.
