Gloucester Tops Gallagher Premiership Table with 18-14 Win Against Newcastle

Gloucester continued their winning streak in the Gallagher Premiership, triumphing in a challenging match against Newcastle at Kingston Park. The Cherry and Whites established an 18-0 lead, with crucial tries contributed by George McGuigan. While a penalty try and an impressive score from Adam Radwan narrowed the gap, it wasn’t sufficient to deny Gloucester victory. This win propelled them to the top of the league table with two consecutive victories.

Newcastle Falcons were beaten 18-14 by Gloucester in a Gallagher Premiership match at Kingston Park, as the visitors moved top of the table.

It took only eight minutes for them to open the scoring in atrocious weather conditions, as George Barton’s penalty made its way through the posts.

George McGuigan scored the first try of the night after running over Falcons scrum-half Hugh O’Sullivan and touching the ball down, before Barton scored a superb conversion to extend their lead to 10-0.

The Cherry and Whites found another try midway through the first half through Jake Morris, who latched onto a loose ball as Stephen Varney’s initial kick towards the Newcastle back row caused mayhem in the challenging conditions.

However, Barton was unable to convert on this occasion to keep the score at 15-0 to the visitors before half-time.

Barton had another chance to increase Gloucester’s lead in the second half, after being awarded a penalty following a scrum.

He duly obliged with resulting penalty from approximately 25m out, with the Falcons still yet to get off the mark.

They were finally on the scoreboard to reduce the arrears at 18-7, as McGuigan appeared to bring down the Newcastle maul from a 5m lineout.

With the maul appearing to be heading towards the try line, referee Jake Makepeace showed McGuigan a yellow card and gave the hosts a penalty try.

The scoring was concluded with a stunning try from Adam Radwan, who made a superb darting run and flew past Barton before going over the line.

« Brett Connon added the conversion for two extra points, improving the scoreline, but Gloucester emerged as the victors. The Falcons will return to action on October 29 as they host Northampton Saints, while Gloucester will face Saracens two days prior. »
