Patients Unite for Talks on Shropshire GP Surgery Acquisition
The first of several meetings is being held to discuss plans for patient purchase and running two Shropshire GP surgeries.
The group has previously said its current GPs plan to retire soon and want to return their surgeries to community ownership.
The main surgery and the smaller one serves around 4,000 patients.
The first meeting was held at 10:30 UK daylight saving time in.
The organization said GPs would normally part-own the surgeries, but members are instead interested in buying the buildings and renting them out to doctors.
They expect the cost to be in the « hundreds of thousands of pounds » but the NHS will set the exact fee, and the group has been exploring grants and charitable charities.
The group’s chairwoman previously told the that she believed the surgeries would be the first ones owned by the community if their bid was successful.
